Self-Assessment

The ILX Consulting Self Assessment Tool (SAT) has been developed to help understand how mature an organisation is in the application of Portfolio, Programme or Project Management (P3M). The SAT poses a series of structured questions in order to collect a broad range of responses on a number of key areas. These questions seek to understand how consistently P3M is applied within the organisation and to what extent the organisation is learning from its experiences and improving its chances of success. The alternative to the SAT is a series of face to face interviews which is much more labour intensive.

The analysis is based on the UK AXELOS Limited Portfolio, Programme and Project Management Maturity Model (P3M3).

  • Management Control
  • Benefits Management
  • Financial Management
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Risk Management
  • Organisational Governance
  • Resource Management

By asking a series of structured questions based around the attributes which identify each of these perspectives it is possible to assess the maturity of these perspectives to build up an overall view of the maturity of this organisation.

Depending upon whether the organisation wishes to assess their projects, programmes or portfolios, the P3M3 model can be applied in three different ways. Firstly it contains a series of questions designed to assess Project Management Maturity (PjM3); A separate set of questions is used to assess Programme Management Maturity (PgM3) and third set of questions designed to assess Portfolio Management Maturity (PfM3). This on-line tool can be tailored to include localised questions should there be a need to do so and once completed by a broad range of participants, the data can be used to identify consistent answers. The results would be verified by a registered consultant holding a small number of interviews. Together this information would help to assess maturity and to identify areas for further development.
